Get to Know Mike Zale

Legislator Mike Zale represents the 20th Legislative District, which includes portions of the Towns of Ogden, Greece and Sweden. Mike was elected in 2015 and began his first term on January 1, 2016. He currently serves as the Chair of the Human Services Committee, the Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee, and a member of the Transportation Committee. He has also served as the Chairman of the Intergovernmental Relations Committee that served Monroe County with Inter-municipal shared service agreements.

Mike is a lifetime resident of Monroe County. After graduating from Houghton College with a degree in Business Administration, Mike was recruited as a tax preparer for a start-up tax corporation in 2006. After the first year in operation, Mike became a partner in the firm. As the company grew and expanded, he took over the roles as the General Manager and became President of the corporation. At the same time Mike studied to become a Financial Advisor and earned his professional credentials to become a Registered Investment Advisor in New York State. His many responsibilities at the firm through the years have provided Mike with a head for business that has served the residents of the 20th District well.

Recognizing the need to give back to the community, Mike decided to coach youth soccer as well as volunteer as a transition coach for incarcerated youth of Industry Correctional Facility. Mike connected students that were transitioning out of the facility with programs that would empower them to become fully rehabilitated and eventually, employed. He was part of a team that came up with an idea that eventually became Young Rhinos Summer Work camp, where “at-risk” city youth would learn employment and general business skills that would set them on a path toward a career. It was because of these experiences that Mike decided to leave his business practices and return to school to pursue a career in education. Currently, Mike is a business education teacher and a soccer coach for the Brockport Central School District.

Mike previously served as a member of the Spencerport Central School District Board of Education. During his time on the School Board, Mike had been a member of several committees including Professional Development, School Wide Enrichment, Leadership Development and Audit Committees. He has also served as co-chair of the Monroe County School Board Association Information Exchange Committee.

Mike and his wife, Kristen, reside in Spencerport with their three children, Dominick, Luca, and Charlie.
